Rajkanika /Aul: A pall of gloom descended on Baripada (Muradpur) village under Deulatara panchayat in Rajkanika block following the sudden death of local reporter Subas Chandra Barik, 60, early Friday.
Barik, a correspondent covering the Olavar area, suffered a heart attack late Thursday night while preparing to go to bed after dinner.
He was initially rushed to the Rajkanika Community Health Centre and later shifted to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, where he died at about 3:35 am, sources said.

On receiving the news, members of the district journalists’ association reached the hospital Friday morning to pay their last respects.
Arrangements were made to take his body to his native village.
A funeral procession was organised en route, with tributes paid at Pattamundai, near Aul Dak Bungalow Square and at Gadagadi Bridge under the aegis of the Kanika Press Club.
Several journalists, local residents and members of social organisations participated in the procession and paid homage to the deceased.
