Bhubaneswar, August 6: Security has been beefed up in the city with 35 platoons of police guarding the roads through which the President’s convoy will pass through during his visit to the city.
Ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the state, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi told Orissa Post that robust security arrangement has been made and 35 platoons will be deployed. The bomb and dog squads reached Puri Thursday and conducted checking at Talbania helipad and Puri Raj Bhavan.
The police headquarters will provide required number of bullet-proof cars in roadworthy condition for use of the VVIP at Bhubaneswar, Rameswar, Khurda, Puri and Cuttack.
Earlier, the home department has asked the Intelligence Director to procure bullet proof cars and jammers from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand for the President’s visit.
A full-fledged security mock drill was conducted Thursday by the Commissionerate police. All the inspectors and sub-inspectors took their respective positions according to their postings on the day as part of the mock drill. The police stations in the city, meanwhile, had a single sub-inspector or an assistant sub-inspector to receive people’s complaints as the officers were attending mock drill.
However, there will be no traffic diversion for commuters. ACP Jatin Panda told Post we have not been asked for diversion Friday.
Mukherjee, who will visit the holy city will drive straight to Raj Bhawan and take rest there. Later, he will visit the Jagannath temple at 6pm and will stay there for half an hour.
