Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: The newly-laid shooting range at the Kalinga Stadium here is all set to host the Vth State Shooting Championships, November 12-15.
Orissa Rifle Association (ORA) stated during a press conference here Friday that the 50 metres rifle and 25 metres pistol events will be conducted November 12-13. The ‘Peep’ sight and ‘Open’ sight events of 10 metres Air Pistol events will be organised at the shooting range in Utkal Karate School in the next two days.
“There will be six segments of participants – junior boys and girls, senior men and women and veteran’s men and women,” informed ORA secretary Hari Prasad Patnaik. “Besides all the district associations and clubs registered under ORA, other interested shooters are also eligible to participate in the competition. They have to register their names in ORA by November 5,” Patnaik added.
Third successive loss
Orissa suffered yet another humiliating five wicket loss against Haryana in a match of the U-19 Women’s Super League Group-A match at Guntur, Friday. This was their third successive loss in the tournament.
Opting to bat first, Orissa were skittled out for 100 runs in 49.4 overs. SP Sharma (3/20) and S Rana (3/20), bowled well for Haryana. Sarojini Giri (19, 63b, 2×4) was the only player for Orissa to put up some resistance with the bat. In reply, Haryana easily reached the victory target with S Gulia (59, 98b, 7×4) leading the charge.
Brief scores: Orissa 100 (SP Sharma 3/20, S Rana 3/20) lost to Haryana 101/5 (S Gulia 59) by five wickets.
AP triumph
Andhra Pradesh beat Uttar Pradesh by 31 runs in a low-scoring Group B match of the U-19 Women’s One-Day Super League at the Ravenshaw University Ground in Cuttack, Friday.
AP were bundled for out 113 runs in 49.3 overs with Saranya Gadwal (27, 69b, 1×4) emerging topscorer. In reply, UP could only manage 82 while chasing against some incisive bowling by M Bhavana (5/17) and K Dhathri (3/22).
Brief scores: Andhra Pradesh 113 (Saranya Gadwal 27) beat Uttar Pradesh 82 (M Bhavana 5/17, K Dhathri 3/22) by 31 runs.
