Puri: Shreyash Subham Patnaik of Cuttack and Anishka Pandey of Khurda are taking the sole lead in the Open and the Girls’ categories respectively after the completion of the fifth round in the Odisha State U-11 Chess Championship here Saturday.
In the open category Shreyas is leading the pack with five points in his kitty. Aditya Anurakta Mohanty of Cuttack and Sriansh Das of Jajpur are sharing the joint second spot with 4.5 points each. Seven players are sharing the joint third spot with sour points apiece.
In the fifth round Shreyas scripted a convincing win over Anubrata Priyadarshan Sahu of Mayurbhanj. Aditya forced Gopin Murmu of Dhenkanal to sign peace with him. Sriansh prevailed over citymate Priansh Das.
In the girls’ segment Anishka is on the top spot with five points in his kitty. Arushi Srichandan of Khurda is lagging in the sole second spot with 4.5 points. Dolisiyas Das, Prakruti Rout of Cuttack and Yashita Rout of Khurda are sharing the joint third spot with four points apiece.
In the fifth round Anishka prevailed over Dolisiyas in a lop-sided match. Arushi played out a stalemate with Palak Mohapatra of Cuttack. Prakruti outwitted Snehayukta Behera of Gajapati while Yashita outwitted Anwesha Anindita Pati of Khurda.
Contrasting fortunes
Odisha teams had contrasting fortunes on the third day of the ongoing 21st National Sub-Junior Sepak Takraw Championships at the KIIT premises in Bhubaneswar, Saturday.
The state girls’ team entered the semifinals of the Regu events after beating Gujarat 2-0 in a quarterfinal match. Odisha will meet Bihar in the second semifinal, Sunday. Bihar defeated Haryana by an identical margin in another quarterfinal match.
However the state boys’ team lost narrowly to Uttar Pradesh 1-2 in the Regu event.
