Soumyashree death: CB files 2nd chargesheet

Balasore: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police filed a second chargesheet at the SDJM court here in the alleged self-immolation case of Soumyashree Bishi, an Integrated BEd student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Saturday.

According to officials, the investigation is ongoing. The agency had earlier arrested the main accused, head of the department (HoD) Sameer Sahu, former principal Dilip Ghosh, student Jyotiprakash Biswal and student leader Subhra Sambit Nayak. All four are currently in judicial custody and lodged in the district jail.

A team led by DSP Iman Kalyan Nayak appeared before the SDJM Court in Balasore and submitted the second chargesheet Saturday.

Earlier September 9, the same team had submitted a 504-page chargesheet naming 120 witnesses. Investigators said Soumyashree had allegedly faced harassment at the hands of HOD Sahu.

After failing to get justice, she attempted self-immolation July 12. She died two days later while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar July 14.

Police arrested Sahu on the day of the incident, and former principal Ghosh July 14.

Later, the Crime Branch arrested Biswal and Nayak August 3 on charges of abetment of suicide.
