Sundargarh: A stationary truck reportedly caught fire, while it was parked alongside the National Highway-143 near Madhupur village in Sundargarh district, Sunday.
This has triggered panic among passersby.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the driver of the vehicle had parked the truck on the roadside and had gone out for some work. However, a fire broke out in the rear of the vehicle all of a sudden, over unknown reasons.
Locals also said that the smoke could be seen billowing out of the vehicle from a long distance. Vehicular traffic was disrupted due to the incident as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the highway.
On being informed, fire department personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials said.
