BHUBANESWAR: A special painting workshop was organised by the Dhauli Art and Craft College on its premises here Wednesday.
Fourteen painters drew paintings based on Durga Puja. At least 16 paintings were drawn by the artists, who participated at the event.
Parameshwar Meher’s painting of the Goddess on canvas was adjudged the best painting of the day, and he received a painting tool from the Dean of the college, Panchanan Samal.
Speaking to Orissa Post he said, “It’s a tough task to paint Goddess Durga’s aggression in the form of Maa Kali. One can notice how Lord Shiva is calm during her rage. It took me two and a half hours to complete the painting, and I hope it will be placed in one of the renowned art galleries of Bhubaneswar.”
Gita Sahoo, another final year student of the institution, painted a piece named ‘Eternal Mother’, which showed how a child is attached to her mother’s umbilical cord even after it is cut.
“I have tried to portray how every human is a child of Goddess Durga and how we are all attached to her in every birth. It’s a symbolic painting, and I am sure everyone will love it,” she said.
The best paintings were also exhibited in the college gallery which was later viewed by art connoisseurs.
Art critic Rita Maitri of Kolkata was on a visit to the college. She found the paintings attractive and said, “Young students drawing paintings of such depth has amazed me. Odisha is truly a land of art, and I am proud to visit it.”
