Singhijuba: A tanker hijacker died and his accomplice was injured when they rode away the stationary diesel tanker and it collided with a tractor near Danipali Square on the Binika-Rampur main road in Sonepur district Saturday night.
Police said the two men had used a master key to start the tanker after its driver and his assistant got down to have food at a road-side dhaba. While they were driving fast towards Rampur, the tanker collided with a tractor, ripping the vehicle into two parts and causing the tanker hijacker’s death.
After the accident, the injured accomplice hid himself on the river bank. On getting information, the police reached the spot and arrested him. He was admitted to the Binika hospital.
sources said, the actual driver and helper of the tanker had parked the vehicle near the Sialjur Bihari dhaba by the side of the Sonepur-Balangir national highway. They were having food at the dhaba around 9pm. The yet-to-be identified duo, who were at the spot, got into the vehicle. They used a master key to get the vehicle started and rode it away.
A police investigation was on. The vehicle has been seized.
