There was a time when a man and woman never got to know each before marriage. They tied the nuptial knot after the respective parents did the match-making. However, times have changed now. In majority of cases, at least in urban India, the man and the woman finalise on their choices.
However, marriage is not the in thing only, living single is. More and more men and women prefer to embrace the ‘singlehood’ lifestyle. However, like any other issue, staying single has its pros and cons.
Happier
The biggest problem with married people is that they have the responsibility of the entire family. They rarely find space for themselves. If a person is single, they have no such responsibility. So the person can enjoy life to the hilt. However, the person has to take care of loneliness also which can be very depressing.
Save money
Expenses for married couples are on the higher side usually. They have to take care of other family members and then there are high establishment costs. It is not that someone ‘single’ has more money. It is just that the person can indulge in luxuries that a married couple may not be able to afford.
Stay fit
When you are single you have a lot of time to spare. So one can devote more time for his/her own personal health. However, it doesn’t mean that all singles are very healthy and fit. They have their share of diseases too. And when they are ill, they don’t have anyone to fall back on.
Career-oriented
It is said that people who are single are able to progress more in their career than married ones. It has been noticed that ‘singlehood’ is beneficial in career as one can devote more time and solve new challenges. However, it doesn’t mean that married people are not successful in their careers. They can be as successful as singles.
