Cuttack: Bike-borne miscreants Tuesday opened fire on a trader from West Bengal and snatched `20,000 from him near College Square here. Victim Sanjay Bera of Kharagpur was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital with bullet injuries in his leg. Sources said Bera had reached the city Monday in connection with his business activities. Bera hired a rickshaw to travel to the city railway station from his hotel Tuesday. According to sources, two bike-borne miscreants intercepted Bera near college Square and asked him to hand over his briefcase. They opened fire at Bera and took away his briefcase after he refused to obey. “The trader had `20,000 and some documents in the briefcase,” said a police officer. Meanwhile, officebearers of Cuttack City Traders’ Association blamed slack police patrolling in Malgodown-College Square area for frequent attack on businessmen.
