Jajpur: As many as four passengers travelling by the Ernakulam-Howrah Express were injured after the train hit a stationary JCB machine at a level-crossing near the Haridaspur station Wednesday. The intensity of the collision was such that the passengers were thrown off their seats.
According to sources, the JCB machine developed technical snag while crossing the railway gate. The machine driver left the vehicle on the railway track. Meanwhile, the train on its way to Kolkata rolled in and rammed the JCB machine. The train, luckily, was not running at high speed.
While the train halted, the JCB machine split into two pieces. Holding the level crossing gate keeper responsible for his negligence, the East Coast railway (EcoR) suspended him. He was Jashobanta Swain.
