Bahanaga: The carcasses of two more dolphins were recovered from the coast of Baleshwar district, taking the number of dead dolphins found along the shoreline to three in the past six days.
The latest carcasses were found at Talapada and Ataspur beaches. Local residents spotted a dead dolphin lying on the Ataspur Adia beach under Baripada panchayat Thursday morning, and informed the Forest department.
Forest officials, including Talakurunia forest beat house forester Manjulata Pradhan and forest ranger Jyotsna Dutta, reached the spot and took the carcass to the Gopalpur veterinary centre for post-mortem examination. The dolphin was about 7 feet long and weighed around 100 kilograms, officials said.
A day later, another dead dolphin, measuring about 4 feet, was found on the sandy stretch of Talapada beach in Remuna block Saturday morning. Both dolphins were identified as males. The recovery of three dead dolphins from the Talapada and Ataspur coastlines at intervals of about a day over the past six days has raised concern among environmentalists, who have sought attention to the deaths and their possible causes.
