Berhampur, Feb 19:A brawl broke out at Behrampur between the players and the selectors of Ganjam Cricket Association (GCA), Thursday, over the selection of the district team for the ensuing Kalahandi Cup cricket tournament. The police intervened and pacified both the parties, following complaints made by both the parties at the Baidyanathapur police station.
The players expressed their dissatisfaction over the selection process and alleged favouritisim. They complained about the selection process before the GCA and staged a protest at the Engineering School Ground following which a brawl broke out. “The case has been solved amicably after a discussion with both the parties,” informed IIC Ajay Mishra.
On the other hand, some of the experts are of the opinion that the association has inner squabbles, which is leading to faulty selection and the players are suffering for it. However GCA secretary WV Raja refuted the allegation. “Only those who have not been selected are crying foul,” he stated. “It is not possible to satisfy everybody while selecting an 11-member team.”
