Bargarh: A video showing a woman dragging her mother-in-law out of the house, abusing and thrashing her went viral on social media.
Ironically, none of the neighbours who watched the incident came to the rescue of the elderly woman. This incident, captured and uploaded on social media by a person who watched the act, occurred in Talpali village of Gaisilet block.
The police registered a case and arrested the accused, identified as Balamati Sahu, wife of Parsuram Sahu. She has been produced in a court, it was learnt.
According to sources, an altercation broke out between Balamati and her mother-in-law over some family issue. Losing her cool, Balamati dragged the fragile woman out of the house by holding her hair.
She then threw her mother-in-law to the house courtyard and thrashed the elderly woman.
Some of the villagers were seen standing as mute spectators as none of them bothered to intervene or stop the attack.
Meanwhile, a youth in the crowd recorded the act in his mobile phone and circulated it on social media.
When contacted, the villagers said they did not intervene because it was a family fight.
