This sensational incident occurred at the Vishwanath temple situated in Multan Nagar under the TP Nagar police station area. According to CCTV footage, the thief entered the temple late at night.
Posing as a devotee, he first inspected the surroundings to ensure no one was watching him. He then climbed the railing in the sanctum sanctorum and stole the coins placed at the feet of the idol of Goddess Mata. The thief slightly lifted the clothes kept near the idol and carefully removed the change, which devotees had offered at the feet of the goddess with devotion.
The video further shows the thief turning his attention towards a cupboard kept in the temple, from where he also stole some books. The most surprising part of the footage is that after committing the theft, the thief folded his hands in front of the idol of the goddess, as if seeking forgiveness, before quickly fleeing the temple.
This entire act was recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the temple, and the footage is now the primary basis for police investigation. Authorities have launched a search to trace the thief.
