Youth alleges assault by IIC, seeks SP’s help

Nayagarh: A youth sought the intervention of the Nayagarh Superintendent of Police after he was allegedly assaulted by the Sadar police station IIC here Saturday.

The victim, Ramesh Gochayat of Kalikaprasad village under this block, approached SP Asish Kumar Singh and submitted to him a written complaint, demanding appropriate action against IIC Manorama Mallick for her highhandedness.

According to sources, there was a rift between Ramesh and his neigbhour Sasmita Jena. Based on a false complaint filed by Sasmita, police called Ramesh to the police station to resolve the matter.

As per the order, Ramesh along with sarpanch Kalucharan Rout and a senior man of the village went to the police station June 21. However, Sasmita did not show up.

After being called by IIC Manorama again, the villagers arrived at the police station June 22. Without any inquiry, the IIC allegedly took a lathi and assaulted Ramesh in front of the sarpanch and the villagers, it was alleged.

The IIC was also accused of manhandling the villagers who had gone to the police station with Ramesh. She allegedly threatened to register fake cases against them, if they dared to speak against her, the complainant stated.

After receiving the complaint, the SP directed SDPO Jayram Satapathy to launch a probe and submit a report. On the other hand, the IIC refuted the allegations and claimed that the truth will be known after the inquiry.
