Youths allegedly kill teen for harassing sister, held

Kalampur/Jaipatna: The Jaipatna police Wednesday claimed to have cracked the murder mystery of Kailash Majhi (18) whose mutilated body was found in a paddy field a day back at Dumermunda village in Kalahandi district.

A preliminary probe revealed that it was a murder and a fallout of a one-sided love affair and harassment of the girl.

The police arrested two brothers in this connection. They have been identified as Paresh Thakur (25) and his brother Rupesh Thakur (23), son of Fakir Thakur of neighbour village Bijamara. However, the two refuted the murder charges and said they were unaware of the murder. They confessed to have threatened Kailash but not killed him.

According to sources, Kailash was in a one-sided love affair with the Thakur brother’s sister. He often harassed her and stalked her. He had even proposed her, but the girl rejected him. Since then, he was often harassing her, sources said.

The two brothers thought to teach him a lesson and waited for him near his village Saturday. They intercepted Kailash while he had gone for a walk with his two friends Chandrakant Naik (17) and Belalasen Majhi (19).

The two brothers threatened Kailash’s friends and drove them away. Later, they broke into a fight with Kailash.

Things took an ugly turn after Kailash threatened to kidnap their sister and see what they could do. In a fit of rage, the two brothers allegedly attacked him and beat him to death. Later, one of them took a stone and bludgeoned his face. The two brothers then took the body and dumped it in a paddy field, the deceased’s family members alleged.

Police registered a case based on a complaint by Kailash’s father Satya Narayan Majhi and made the arrest. A team led by IIC Susant Kumar Sahu and a scientific team were pressed into the probe.

The two brothers have confessed to the crime, police said. The police registered a case and produced the two brothers in a court.
