Nimapara: A desire to get respite from the scorching sun turned tragic for three friends who drowned in Kushabhadra river near Shyamsundarpur here Tuesday.
The mishap occurred when the trio was taking bath in the river. The deceased were identified as Tejeswar Mohanty (21), Jyoti Ranjan Sahu (20) and Kamal Lochan Jena (16), all residents of Puri.
The trio was bathing in Kushabhadra river at Dhirapur ghat around 3pm when they went missing, Sujit Kumar Tripathy, an eye witness, said. Their bodies were brought to Nimapara hospital by the ODRAF team where the doctor declared them brought dead. There was palpable tension in the hospital, sources added.
