Puri: The 50-foot high wall of Markandeya tank Monday collapsed due to the torrential rain since Saturday in this pilgrim town.
A utility pole also got damaged due to the wall collapse, disrupting power supply here.
Besides, the whole town has been submerged in rain water. While rain water has been flowing knee deep on Bada Danda, the stretch from Hospital square to Balagandi square has also been affected by heavy rainfall.
Areas near Beach road, Abakash Nagar, Khaki mutt, Nua Sahi, Gundicha temple and Matiapada also indicated a flood-like situation.
However, the fire department is pulling all stops to drain out the rain water with pumps.
