BHUBANESWAR: Barsha, the annual festival of music and dance organised by a city-based cultural forum Chinta O Chetana, was a major draw at Rabindra Mandap in the last two evenings. The 39th edition of the music and dance festival saw performances by satirists like Gyana Hota, Satyabrata and Satya Ranjan Mishra on the inaugural day, taking the audience on a joy ride. While the first day was devoted to comedy and singing, the second day , Wednesday, unveiled dance performances, a great treat to the eyes and ears. The audience burst into peals of laughter, repeatedly, as Gyana Hota presented satirical poems in a series. Satyaranjan Mishra made viewers roll in their seats with jokes linked to his life. Mishra presented satirical poems based on themes like ‘bus fare hike’, ‘China crackers’, ‘Burning effigy of Ravana’, ‘Chilika’, and ‘Oriya medium’. In addition, Satyaranjan and Satyabrata featured a skit at the end of their performance. The inaugural day concluded with a classical instrumental recital ‘Megha Mallhar’. The musicians who presented it were Guru Ramesh Chandra Das in violin, Guru Abhiram Nanda in flute and Guru Kulamani sahoo in tabla. Little chess master Saina Salonika and Dr Krushna Keshab Sarangi, who propagated the Jagannath Culture, were felicitated. Baba Ram Narayan Das Maharaja, women and child development minister Prafulla Samal, agriculture minister Dr Damador Rout, and founder of KITT and KISS Achyuta Samanta were present. They unveiled the book ‘Shiva
Upasana and Nabagraha Santi Bidhan’ written by astrologer Dr Pradeep Chaudhury. Secretary of Chinta O Chetana, Surendra Das, said, “The event is organised with an aim to motivate people to connect with Nature. The objective of the annual festival is to showcase the fusion of various art forms (music, dance, entertainment). With the city art lovers’ generous support and help, the festival has been a success year after year.” On the second evening, mesmerizing performances by the members of the Odisha Dance Academy choreographed by Padma Shree Aruna Mohanty took the audience to new heights of joy. Their presentation called Monsoon Meetup where the romantic tales of lovers who came up and close during the monsoon season were showcased through the medium of dance. Minister Damodar Rout, MLA Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and Aruna Mohanty were present. The organisers paid rich tributes to former members of the Chinta O Chetana, like chief minister Harekrushna Mahatab and politician Nandini Devi, among others.
