Kolkata: The BJP planned Saturday the largest exodus from the Trinamool Congress to the saffron party. It happened leading to verbal exchanges between the top leaders of the BJP and the Trinamool Congress. Well the West Bengal-based party has been quick to hit back. Not only has it organised a defection, but in the process also hit the personal life of BJP MP, Soumitra Khan.

Sujata Mondal Khan, wife of the BJP MP, switched over to the TMC from the saffron camp Monday. She claimed that she did not get her due recognition even after taking several risks to get her husband elected during 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sujata alleged that ‘newly inducted, misfit and corrupt leaders’ are getting more importance in the saffron camp.  So she has taken the decision to join the Trinamool Congress.

“Despite enduring physical attacks, sacrificing so much to get my husband elected to Parliament, I got nothing in return. I want to work under our beloved leader Mamata Banerjee and our ‘dada’ Abhisek Banerjee,” Sujata said. She was handed over the party flag by TMC MP Saugata Roy and spokesperson spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.

Sujata was asked about her husband’s reaction to her decision of joining the TMC. She said it was up to him to decide his future course of action. Incidentally, Soumitra is also the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state unit chief,

“I hope he would realise one day… Who knows he might be back in the TMC one day,” Sujata said. “I have done a lot for him, hope he realises that,” she added.

It should be stated here that during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Soumitra had contested from the Bishnupur constituency. However, as he had several cases pending against him, he was not permitted to enter his constituency. It was Sujata, who single-handedly supervised her husband’s campaign and fashioned his victory.

Husband… well that may not be anymore. If sources are to be believed, Soumitra has already filed for divorce. The TMC has hit where it hurts the most and now Soumitra has two battles to fight – one on the personal front and the other on the political battleground.  Soumitra also told mediapersons that ‘he is ‘freeing Sujata forever’.
