Bhubaneswar: In a dramatic turn of events, personnel from Chandaka police station were attacked by a group of armed miscreants Monday night while verifying intelligence inputs on criminal activities near Kantabada village. Police said three accused — including one impersonating a police officer — were arrested, while several others managed to flee.
According to the written report, police received credible information that a gang armed with lethal weapons was blocking the road near Kantabada and extorting money from commuters. Acting on the tipoff, ASI Jyotsnarani Pradhan, accompanied by an IRBN team, reached the spot around 10:10 pm December 8.
Before their arrival, SI A. Kar and the investigating officer had already reached the location in plain clothes for verification. They observed around seven to eight armed individuals stopping vehicles and intimidating travellers, with one of them even wearing a police uniform.

On noticing the approaching police team, the gang abandoned their motorcycles and fled towards Kantabada. Police seized multiple motorcycles and sharp weapons from the spot.
The accused have been booked under Sections 127(2)/296/115(2)/308(2)/109(1)/132/221/3(5) of the BNS read with Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act.
