Who’s who of the theatre world of the city attended the event.
Social activist Surya Rath and Surendra Sahoo were present as special guests of the show.
Rajesh Mohanty, founder of Abhinaya said, “The main objective behind organising the event is to revive the gurukul parampara. Earlier, in the drama and theatre world the gurukul system was very prominent. But now it is mostly practiced in dance. So, we want to revive the tradition of recognising the guru and their importance in theatre.”
A drama, Ardheka Pruthivi, which was received well by the guests and dignitaries present, was performed on the occasion. Around eight artists performed in the drama, which was based on the modern education system and its impact on the Oriya society.
Speaking about the drama, Satchi Mohanty, a theatre director, said, “Today’s drama is based on the modern education system and how it has ruined the age-old tradition of the Oriya society. The influence of western culture among youths has increased to such an extent that now they appear almost as aliens in their own culture. The new generation doesn’t want to visit their villages and take part in their festivals. The drama portrays the impact of westernisation on our society.”
