Nuapada: A baby girl was born to a jail inmate in Nuapada jail Thursday, bringing a positive atmosphere in the prison and smile in the faces of the prisoners.
As she was born Thursday, she was named as Bishnu Priya. She was termed as ‘Bijuli Kanya’ and the prisoners affectionately called her Babli.
Interestingly, the jail authorities also did not disappoint the inmates. They held the baby’s 21st day ceremony and name giving ceremony with all the prisoners as guests. In the presence of the jail authorities, a ‘puja’ was organised on the jail premises.
The puja was held in a peaceful manner and the prisoners even provided gifts to the baby.
According to sources, Milly Meher (32) of Duajhar village under Kharial police limits in Nuapada district is lodged in Nuapada jail for hacking her mother-in-law to death over a family dispute. She was pregnant during her arrest.
With the help of other jail inmates, she delivered a baby in the jail Thursday. It was a normal delivery. Both the mother and he baby were in good condition.
The baby’s birth brought a different kind of atmosphere in the jail.
“She was born as an angel amidst criminals, convicts and under-trials. Even the most notorious of the criminals will change his heart for a while by seeing the baby girl,” a jail official said adding that a Puja was arranged in a bid to send positive feelings among prisoners.
