Balasore: District police officials conducted simultaneous raids in different areas of the Balasore district and seized brown sugar weighing 302 grams worth Rs 30 lakh near Luniajodi bridge at Sahadevkhunta block of Balasore Sunday morning.
The raid team also arrested three drug peddlers. The arrested have been identified as Hyder Ali of Balasore – kingpin of the smuggling racket and two other young men from Khurda district.
Acting on a tip-off about the illegal activity, the raids were carried out in various areas of Balasore district to bust the racket involved in brown sugar smuggling.
Three mobile phones, two motorcycles, and Rs 9.44 lakh in cash were seized from their possession by the officials, Balasore SP Jugal Kishor Kumar Banoth said.
A case has been registered and the accused persons were taken into police custody. All of them have been forwarded to court, the SP added.
