Jeypore: In a tragic incident, two persons, onboard a moving passenger bus, were electrocuted Saturday at Palakaput under Sadar police limits in Koraput district.
The deceased were identified as the driver Damuru Jani and conductor Tuna Padhi of the bus (AP-31 TU 3769).
The helper and five other passengers who were inside the bus escaped certain death.
The bus was on its way from Koraput to Jeypore to pick up a marriage party. Padhi climbed atop the bus to remove obstacles after it got stuck by an extended tree branch.
However, the driver pressed the accelerator pedal a little bit to move the vehicle forward. This made Padhi come in contact with an overhead livewire. He died on the spot. Jani was also thrown off the bus due to the impact after the steering got charged. He also died on the spot.
The casualty would have been bigger had the bus been packed with the marriage party, locals said.
Sadar police reached the spot and seized the bodies as well as the vehicle.
Investigation into the matter was on, police said.
