Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Excise department, during a special drive, seized 282 litres of illicit distilled liquor (IDL) and five litres of country-made liquor in separate operations Tuesday and arrested five persons from the Mancheswar Line Sahi, Jaripatna, Nilachakra Nagar and IDCO slum areas.
The identities of the arrested persons are yet to be ascertained by the Excise Department.
According to excise sources, the department received reliable inputs about illegal liquor trade in the City, following which special teams were formed to conduct raids at various locations to dismantle the supply chain of illicit liquor.
During the raids, the excise teams seized 282 litres of illicit distilled liquor (IDL) and five litres of country-made liquor. They also confiscated two two-wheelers used for smuggling the contraband.

“Acting on reliable tip-offs, we nabbed the culprits. Through the special drive, we are targeting major locations and smugglers involved in the illegal liquor trade.
The accused have been arrested and forwarded to court,” said Bhubaneswar Excise DSP Raj Sekhar Swain.
It may be noted that January 3, the Excise department arrested three youths, including a law graduate, for allegedly smuggling drugs to high-profile professionals and students in the City.
