Loisingha: In a tragic incident, a man died by suicide after being run over by a train on the day of his son’s wedding reception in Bolangir district Sunday.
The deceased, Shyam Mahakur of Loisingha, reportedly lay on the railway tracks near the local station around 8:30 am and was run over by a goods train.
The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. Government Railway Police (GRP) from Bolangir reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

The body was later handed over to the family, and the last rites were performed at the village cremation ground. According to reports, Mahakur’s son was married Saturday at nearby Kaogaon, and he had participated in the wedding procession.
Preparations were underway for the reception Sunday when the incident came to light.
Mahakur is survived by a son and a daughter.
He earlier sold breakfast items near the bus stand and had been working as a mason for over a year, locals said. Police have launched an investigation.
