Jharigaon: Maoist posters and banners displayed by the rebels of Menpur division were found on Khalipani Road in this block of Nabarangpur district Friday. The Maoists also blocked the road using a tree.
The Maoists urged local residents through posters to observe Republic Day as a black day. They also asked people to observe a protest week from January 25 to 31.
The banners said the Reds have been fighting for the rights of tribals against governments. The Centre has been torturing tribals, the Maoists claimed in their posters.
The Reds demanded safe drinking water, roads and electricity connections for tribals. They also threatened individuals who have been informing security forces about their moves, and to punish them in praja courts.
The Chandahandi police and BSF personnel seized the posters and banners of the Maoists.
Maoist posters were found hanging on a bridge near Sarakubandh in the Swabhiman area in Chitrakonda police limits of Malkangiri district Thursday.
The Maoists urged the residents of Nagaland, Manipur, J&K and Assam not to discriminate against people on the basis of caste, creed and religion.
The Reds also asked the people to make their nationwide bandh January 31 successful.
Ultras hold meet in Chitrakonda
MALKANGIRI: The Maoists held a huge praja meli (public meeting) in the Andarapalli jungle in this district’s Swabhiman area.
The Left extremists gathered thousands of tribal residents and shouted slogans against the government.
At the meeting, the Maoists said the government has been looting the mines and minerals of the state on the pretext of development. They also alleged that both the state and Central governments have been giving the mines of the state to foreign companies.
The Reds also said that women of the state were being assaulted. Sources said top Maoists Sudhir and Uday attended the meeting.
