Baripada, Nov 29: Maoists have reportedly become active in some pockets of the tribal district, especially under seven police stations such as Jharpoharia, Gorumahisani, Suliapada, Chandua, Bisoi, Rasgobindapur and Bangiriposi.
The left wing ultras, who had been lying low for quite some time due to intensive combing operations by security agencies, have stepped up their activities. Maoist posters written in Hindi were found pasted on walls of an anganwadi centre, panchayat office, Joeswar high school, Pakatia rest house and several other places Sunday.
Besides, a large number of Maoist leaflets were found scattered on the ground. Ganamukti Guerilla Bahini of CPI (Maoist) has taken credit for the posters.
In the posters, ultras have urged youths, poor famers to join armed struggle to scuttle Operation Green Hunt in the area. The Red rebels urged people to observe Ganamukti Guerilla Bahini week from December 2 to 8.
The ultras also wanted people to form Krantikari Jana Committees and public relation camps in villages. The posters have triggered panic among people.
Locals said some unknown persons had visited Bajargoda area under Jharpokaria police limits on bikes a few days ago. They were found moving near Jamgadia along with big bags.
Maoists had set up a camp to recruit youths in the same place in 2008 for training them in guerilla warfare. In 2009, Maoists had tried to attack then MP Sudam Marndi at Bandab while ASI Narayan Pradhan, havildar Rajani Mohant and constable Ganha Hembram were killed in the attack.
Maoists had tried to kill an elephant named Mahandra in Similaipal March 28, 2009. Since that incident, the Similipal authorities had closed the sanctuary to tourists for two years.
Maoists had also pasted posters in the area August 14, 2015.
When contacted, SDPO Binaykrishna Kamila said police have seized the posters and leaflets.
