Saraskana: Mayurbhanj district is endowed with many places of tourism importance. Some have got tourism tag while others have been left neglected and far from public sight. Merumath is one of the tourist places in the district.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirajan Pujari visited Merumath, a place on the banks of the Subarnarekha river under Saraskana block on the borders of Odisha and Jharkhand. Funds for its development are likely to be provided, it was learnt.
However, the place has been lying neglected. As winter comes, thousands of people from Jharkhand and other parts throng the place. The premises of Merumath have Dhuni temple, a herbal garden and Mahima temple. The government has made the boating facility.
Merumath is 38 km from Baripada and 8 km from Jharpokharia block. The state government has accorded tourism tag to the place February 25, 2016. It was alleged that despite tourism status, the place has not been provided funds for its development.
During distribution of smart health cards Friday, the Finance Minister visited the place. He was accompanied by Saraskana tehsildar Lalatendu Singh, BDO Karunakar Dhinda and former MLA Bhadab Hansda.
“During the visit, the Finance Minister has assured funds for development of Merumath,” said Baba Sanjay Das, the priest looking after the place.
