Minor rape-accused referred to shelter home

Jagatsinghpur: A minor, one of the three accused in the Tirtol minor’s rape case, has been sent Tuesday to a shelter home for juveniles.
Principal magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board Pradeep Pradhan passed the order.

Meanwhile, the two other accused – Rashmi Ranjan Das (22) of Tanara under Raghunathpur police limits and another accused from Kolta under Tirtol police limits – were produced before a court. Their bail pleas were rejected and they were sent to the Alipingal sub jail. The victim’s statement was recorded at the SDJM court.

The three accused had allegedly waylaid the minor while she was cycling to her tuition centre. She was taken to a nearby jungle. Their attempt to rape her was foiled as a local shopkeeper happened to be around. Confronted, the accused fled the spot, leaving the victim behind.
Later, the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police and an investigation started.
