Sambalpur: Ghanashyam Jal alias Cheru (9) has rejoined his family at Bahalpada, Sakhipada, here about seven months after he went missing. He was rescued at Raipur railway station December 2, 2017 and since then he had been staying with Raipur Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The boy was brought to Sambalpur Monday and handed over to his grandmother Sorsen Jal in the absence of his father after due verification of the family’s identity in the presence of CWC chairman Rameswar Padhi, members Girija Shankar Sharma, Jogindra Patjoshi and Surya Kumar Panigrahi at its office.
Speaking on the episode, Sambalpur CWC member Surya Kumar Panigrahi said Cheru was living with his parents, who worked at a brick kiln in Raipur. He left his family on that fateful day following some family altercation.
Panigrahi added that somehow the boy reached Raipur railway station from the brick kiln. When he was spotted in the railway station in a suspicious condition, Raipur Childline rescued him. Since he could not give his address properly, Cheru was kept in a childcare institution.
Recently, Raipur CWC came to know that Cheru hails from Sambalpur, so Sambalpur CWC was informed accordingly which in turn instructed Sambalpur Childline to bring back Cheru and hand him over to his family.
