Bahanaga, Jan 20: A student, who went missing three days ago, was found dead Tuesday with hands and legs bound in a pond at Asimila in Dandaharipur panchayat under this block of Balasore district.
The body was decomposed. Locals suspect it was a preplanned murder, even as police have detained three youths on suspicion for interrogation.
According to reports, this morning, some villagers found slippers of the youth Dinesh Kumar Mallick (17) near the pond of Trilokya Behera. Later, they cast net inside the pond and fished out the body. Dinesh, son of Bhaskar Mallick, was a student of Plus-II at Bahanaga Junior College. His family members alleged Sanjay Mallick, son of Bidyadhar Malick, had taken Rs 1000 from Dinesh and had given him an old cell phone. However, a few days later, Sanjay took away the cell phone and did not return it or the money. Both used to quarrel over the matter. Dinesh had to go on a picnic and demanded his money back from Sanjay. Saturday, Sanjay had called Dinesh over telephone. People had even seen the duo talking near the pond in the evening. That night, Dinesh had not returned home. His family members searched for him, but in vain. Following a complaint, police detained Sanjay as a suspect and later detained two others. Notably, Sanjay has several cases pending against him at Soro police station.
Police have registered a case. Bahanaga police station inspector-in-charge Dayanidhi Das said it was a case of murder.
