Mob thrashes man for theft bid

Ghasipura: Taking the law onto their hands, a group of locals attacked a man accused of theft bid after tying him to a tree at Ananadapur Block Chhak in Keonjhar district Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, police rushed to the spot and rescued the accused from the mob.

Sandhayrani Sutar, a woman of Fakirpur, was in a shop to purchase some articles. She had parked her scooty by roadside. At this time, two persons came on a bike and attempted to break open the case of the bike.

As the woman by chance saw the theft bid and raised an alarm, the two miscreants ran away in different directions.

Babuli Sethi, a local trader, chased one of them and managed to capture him. A large crowd gathered and tied the accused D Sriram to a tree and gave him a good thrashing before he was rescued by police. Another accused D Rajesh managed to escape. Police recovered a lock-breaking tool, Rs 2,000 and a cell phone from the accused.
