Bhubaneswar: Odisha Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra has formally requested Central assistance for the development of a world-class Science City on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The project, envisioned as a state-of-the-art hub featuring interactive exhibits and immersive learning spaces, aims to inspire the youth and strengthen the state’s position in science and technology.
Patra, during a high-level meeting with Science & Technology Union Minister Jitendra Singh, discussed aligning Odisha’s regional scientific initiatives with the Central government’s national missions.
The minister emphasised that the proposed Science City would act as a growth catalyst for the state’s technology sector, with 100 acres of land already identified for the project.
Officials said the meeting also explored the creation of a dedicated Space Innovation Hub to support startups and research.
The initiative plans to leverage the expertise of the Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) and research labs such as the one at VSSUT, Burla, positioning Odisha as a leader in satellite data applications and space-tech entrepreneurship.
In line with the national Bio-E3 Policy, Patra also proposed the establishment of Bio e-Cells across the state.
These centres would focus on high-performance biomanufacturing, promote eco-friendly technologies, and help institutes translate lab research into commercially viable biotech products.
Beyond these flagship projects, discussions included broader strategies to promote scientific development across the state.
Expressing gratitude for the Union Minister’s continued mentorship, Patra highlighted that strong state-Centre collaboration would be key to transforming Odisha into a premier scientific and industrial hub.
Singh assured full Central support, promising technical expertise and financial backing to ensure the success of these landmark initiatives.
