Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Monday issued Yellow Warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places over several districts of Odisha over the next two days.
Under the Day 1 forecast, valid until 8:30 a.m. February 24, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Ganjam, Gajapati and Bargarh districts.
Light rain or thunderstorms are very likely at one or two places over these districts, while dry weather is expected to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.
Shallow to moderate fog is likely during early morning hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Puri districts.
For Day 2, valid from 8:30 am February 24 to 8:30 a.m. February 25, a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph has been issued for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Dhenkanal districts.
Light rain or thunderstorms are very likely at one or two places over these districts, with dry weather likely to prevail over the rest of Odisha. Shallow to moderate fog is also likely during early morning hours at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining areas of the central Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region at 8:30 am Monday. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. It is very likely to move nearly northeastward and weaken gradually during the next 24 hours.
