Bhubaneswar, August 4:The Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH) is going to celebrate its 13th foundation day, but the museum still doesn’t have a proper fire safety measure installed to protect the museum from any mishap in future. It certainly seems to be a negligence on the part of the museum officials, even after the massive tragedy at the National Museum of Natural History in Delhi in April last year, which destroyed most of the rare collections and artefacts the museum housed. Asked about fire safety, authorities at RMNH said that they would take all required steps for the safety of the museum soon. When Orissa POST visited the museum to check the details, it was found that there were no fire extinguishers and water pipelines through which the fire brigade tankers could fill their tanks in case of an emergency. The official also said that the brass noses which are used for unlocking water pipelines have been stolen. Gourav, the scientist-in-charge of the museum, said, “We have sent tenders for fire extinguishers to the Delhi branch a few months back, but we are yet to get any response from the head office. It’s not in our hands.” According to the information reported by other museum employees, the extinguishers installed in the museum expired and the RMNH authorities removed all the expired extinguishers and stored them in the rooms on the top floor.
