Jamnagar: Police constable Sajay Ahir was arrested here late Monday evening for allegedly assaulting Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wife Reeva following a minor accident involving her car here, police said Tuesday.
The alleged incident occurred at Saru Section road here when Reeva’s car allegedly hit the motorcycle of the constable who attacked her, said Jamnagar district superintendent of police, Pradeep Sejul.
“The policeman physically assaulted Reeva Jadeja after her car hit his motorbike. We are providing all possible help to her and will take strict action against the policeman,” he informed.
An onlooker said that the policeman could have behaved in a more responsible manner. “He (the policeman) beat up the cricketer’s wife mercilessly and even pulled her hair during the altercation. We saved her from his clutches,” witness to the incident Vijaysinh Chavda told reporters.
This is the second time that the Jadeja family had their brush with the law. In 2016, Jadeja had been fined Rs 20,000 by the Gujarat forest department for taking selfies closely with lions, an act strictly prohibited by law. Jadeja and his wife had then, got down from the vehicle to take pictures which he later posted on the social media.
Jadeja, however, is yet to arrive here as he is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL-XI. The team play Qualifier-1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tuesday. Sources informed that the cricketer is monitoring the situation while his wife is recuperating from the blows she received.
