Nayagarh: In a curious case, a sarpanch was made to cough up Rs 500 for spitting in a no- spitting zone in the district and sessions court premises hereFriday. He was Arat Behera of Kendudhipi panchayat.
Behera had been to the court for some work. Absent-mindedly, he spit in a no-spitting zone after chewing pan. A lawyer confronted him. The sarpanch allegedly replied in an arrogant manner. The lawyer, not to be outwitted, referred the matter to the police.
Cops made the sarpanch pay a fine of Rs 500 before he was let off with a customary warning.
