Paradip: The district administration Monday midnight imposed Section 144 of the CrPC near Essar Steel Plant here in Jagatsinghpur district main gate apprehending a possible clash between two labour union groups of the plant Tuesday.
Tension stemmed after one labour union received recognition for plant authority. Opposing this, another labour group proposed a violent protest June 26 demanding closure of the unit.
Plant sources confirmed the development, saying one group has been opposing the recognition received by the other group. They are said to be organising a protest in front of the plant gate demanding the shutdown of the plant.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been beefed up outside the plant to avoid any untoward incident. Two platoons of police have also been deployed in the area.
As per the latest information, the Additional District Magistrate has also called for a meeting with the plant authority and the protesters at 11 am Tuesday to bring back normalcy.
