Aul: Normal life remained paralysed in Aul and Rajkanika blocks in Kendrapara district Sunday due to a six-hour bandh called by the Aul and Kanika Joint Working Committee demanding sub-division status for the block.
While government and private offices, business establishments, markets and educational institutions remained closed, vehicles stayed off the roads at several places in Aul and Rajkanika blocks. The agitators were seen picketing at some places, as also holding meetings and road blockades at different places in the two blocks to press.
“This block has fulfilled all the criteria for getting sub-division status. We have been demanding this for long. The district administration is paying no heed to this long-standing demand. We would intensify our agitation in the coming days if the administration keeps ignoring our demand,” said an activist.
Various social and civil society organisations, students, intellectuals, senior citizens and people from all walks of life have extended their support to the strike.
