Dasmantapur: Four families of a village are living a life of isolation for the past five years after they were socially boycotted over suspicion they practiced sorcery. This happened in Tikiriguda under this block in Koraput district.
Worse, the villagers often threaten the four families and do not allow them use the public properties like pond, tube well, roads and electricity. They are not even allowed to speak to anyone. No one calls them for work and they are not allowed to work for others. The villagers have threatened to boycott even those who talk to the family members.
Among the victims were Dana Saunta, Sudru Saunta, Nanda Saunta and Ladi Saunta.
A few days back, some villagers stormed into Dana’s house and assaulted his wife and minor children. They even branded the minor children with iron rods.
The accused were Ruhuni Saunta, Jhadu Saunta, Amul Saunta and Bhaskar Saunta.
The villagers have threatened the families to kill them if they dared to lodge a written complaint with the police. It has been more than five years that these families are living a life of isolation. The villagers pleaded with the administration to rescue them and help them gain justice.
