Swine flu toll 11

Bhubaneswar: There is no let up in swine flu deaths as two more H1N1 patients undergoing treatment here died on Wednesday. With this the death toll has gone up to 11 so far this year in the state.
At the same time, the dengue menace too spread its tentacles across 24 districts in the state with 402 dengue positive cases reported so far with two deaths.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena, who reviewed the swine flu situation, said that focus is on to create awareness among people both in urban and rural areas to check spread of the disease.
Of the 47 H1N1 samples tested, 16 found positive this day, of which five are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack while the others were admitted to various hospitals in Bhubaneswar, say the health officials.
So far, 507 swabs have been tested, of which 171 have been tested positive for the seasonal influenza, officials said.
Officials, meanwhile, said that a 50-year-old man died while undergoing treatment at Care Hospital, while another 29-year-old woman died at AMRI hospital. With this the total swine flu deaths in the state has gone up to 11.
The Health Minister, who took stock of the situation at state Secretariat, said massive awareness campaign is being carried out against swine flu and the state government is bearing the medicine cost of patients, including those undergoing treatment at private hospitals for H1N1.
