Three missing as boat capsizes in river Sileru

Malkangiri, Jan 21: At least three tribals were missing and as many swam ashore when a fishing boat in which they were travelling capsized in river Sileru in this district.

Two of the three missing persons were identified as Bacheli Chinnarao and Bari Machay of Sanyasiguda village. The identity of one villager is yet to be established. The incident took place Tuesday night when six persons, three each from Mariguda and Sanyasiguda villages, were returning from Andhra Pradesh after shopping. According to Chitrakonda tehsildar Falguni Majhi, the six villagers from Kurmanur gram panchayat under Kalimela block, had gone to other side of the river for bringing some essentials like rice.

The boat capsized in mid-river leading to the missing of three persons belonging to Sanyasiguda, he said. The other three persons from Mariguda, however, could swim ashore, he added. Following the mishap, revenue inspector Naresh Bagha and ARI Ranjan Talukdar reached the spot. Search operation is being carried with help of fire brigade.
