Two farmers die over ‘crop loss’

Bargarh/Bheden: Upset over crop damage, two farmers reportedly died in Bargarh district. It was alleged that one farmer committed suicide by drinking insecticide while another died of cardiac arrest.

The deceased were identified as Hrudananda Dila (32) of Unani under Ambabhona police limits and Wanka Apparao (62) of Andhrapada.

Hrudananda had raised paddy in five acres of land and groundnuts in some patches after borrowing Rs 40,000 from private lenders. But the entire crop got damaged due to shortage of water.

His brother Gourang alleged that Hrudananda took the extreme step in the wee hours of Tuesday. He was admitted to a hospital where he died. Police registered a case of unnatural death.

Apparao had grown paddy in four acres of land. The paddy was damaged by hailstorm. His family members alleged that on seeing the crop damage, he complained of chest pain. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital at Papanga where he was declared brought dead.
