ourkela: A sixty-year-old villager was fatally attacked by a tusker at Mandap area under Teterkela village of Bisra block in Sundargarh district Friday morning. He was Somalia Oram.
Oram had been to the forest near the village. He came face-to-face with a wild tusker. The pachyderm battered him to death. Locals armed with lathis and crackers rushed to the forest and drove the animal away. Forest officials said they launched a probe. The body has been sent for post mortem.
The incident caused concern among the locals over the failure on the part of forest officials to protect them from attacks of wild animals. They sought compensation for the bereaved family.
