A serious accident at a petrol pump in the Urla police station area of Birgaon in Raipur district has gone viral on social media.

According to eyewitnesses and police, two young men arrived at the petrol pump to refuel their bike. While the tank was being filled, one of them began smoking. Another man warned him that smoking at a petrol pump was dangerous, but he ignored the caution.

The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the motorcycle and a fuel dispenser. The pillion rider managed to escape, though some burning fuel reportedly splashed onto the accused.

As panic spread, the two men attempted to flee but were caught by pump staff, who alerted the police.

Urla police launched an investigation based on CCTV footage and statements from employees. The footage reportedly shows an argument followed by the accused setting the bike’s fuel tank ablaze with a lighter. Using the vehicle’s registration details and digital evidence, police detained both men.

Police said an FIR has been registered and further legal action is underway. Officials credited the prompt response of the petrol pump staff with averting a major tragedy.
