Watch: Roger Waters of Pink Floyd reads Aamir Aziz’s poem ‘Sab Yaad Rakha Jayega’, calls Narendra Modi a ‘fascist’

Former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters is one of the most politically vocal musicians on the planet.

Waters has been one of the most persistent supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange who was jailed for 50 weeks in May 2019 for breaching his bail conditions after going into hiding in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for nearly seven years.

In an event organised as a protest against Assange’s extradition to the United States, Waters, on stage, read a few lines from Indian poet Aamir Aziz whose poem ‘Sab Yaad Rakha Jayega’ has caused ripples through Indian political discourse in recent times.

Waters began his reading by branding the hugely controversial Citizenship Amendment Act  (CAA) that PM Narendra Modi and his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) introduced as ‘fascist and racist’.

“This is a young man none of us know. His name is Aamir Aziz and he is a young poet and activist in Delhi. He is involved in the fight against Modi and his fascist, racist citizenship law,” began Waters.

“Everything Will Be Remembered

Kill us, we will become ghosts and write

of your killings, with all the evidence.

You write jokes in court;

We will write ‘justice’ on the walls.

We will speak so loudly that even the deaf will hear.

We will write so clearly that even the blind will read.

You write ‘injustice’ on the earth;

We will write ‘revolution’ in the sky.

Everything will be remembered;

Everything recorded,” finished Waters

India’s capital New Delhi has been a centre of political turmoil ever since the CAA was passed in the Indian Parliament back in December, 2019.
