Ranpur: Police Sunday arrested a youth on the charge of assaulting a teacher at Sanagad square near Ranpur in Nayagarh district. The assault was the fallout of a personal enmity, sources said.
The accused was identified as Badri Bahan (32) from Sanagad village while the teacher Suresh Mandhata was a resident of Bilagadia village.
Based on a complaint by Suresh, police registered a case and produced Badri in a court.
According to sources, the incident occurred while the teacher had gone to Ranpur for some work. When Badri spotted the teacher in the market, he began to abuse Suresh.
Then he punched Suresh on his face, critically injuring his nose.
This incident spread outrage among the teachers’ association who staged a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
Later, a team led by Ranpur IIC Girija Shankar Rath arrested Badri from his village.
Badri was a repeat offender and was released on bail two months ago in another case, sources added.
